5 males, 3 females. Open auditions, everyone is welcome. 

Strangers, stranded in a boarding house in a snow storm, must discover the murderer among them before it is too late. Each quirky character has his own secrets to hide, so navigating the enigmatic maze to discover the killer won't be easy. But, then, who doesn't love a good mystery?

From the author of The Wizard of Oz comes a delicious fantasy featuring a life-size gingerbread man named John Dough. All John Dough has to do is avoid being eaten by a crowd of gingerbread-loving characters! The tasty fellow journeys to the Isle of Phreex where he meets a charming child. Together they escape the island in an incredible flying-machine. But they still have to survive the mischievous Mifkets, a den of hungry Pirates, and many other characters with a passion for gingerbread! Joined by a bouncing rubber bear called Para Bruin they finally reach a marvelous land where they might just find a home!

The Yorkshire Playhouse Children's Theatre is for children who have completed first grade to those who have completed their junior year in high-school.  Rehearsals will begin on Monday May 30 and run through the month of June, beginning each morning at 8:30 a.m. and going until 11:30 a.m. The performances are schedule for June 23, 24, and 25 at 7:00 p.m., and June 26 at 2:00 p.m.  The aim of the Yorkshire Playhouse Children's Theatre is to teach children about theatre, performance skills, and to give the children of York County an enjoyable artistic experience.

There are roughly 40-50 parts in John Dough and the Cherub.  Due to a limited number of roles in the production children are required to audition for apart in the production. 

Auditions will be held at the Yorkshire Playhouse May 12 3:00-6:00 pm, May 13 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday May 14 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  An audition time can be reserved by calling the Yorkshire Playhouse at 402-362-3678 Monday May 9, Thursday May 10, Wednesday May 11 between 12:30-5:00 pm. and, Thursday May 12 and Friday May 13between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. Please do not call for a reservation except at the times listed.

Walk in auditions are welcome, however if you show up at the door without a reserved time your child will be given the nearest time available.  Please arrive 15-minutes before your scheduled audition time to fill out an audition form.

Each participant in The Yorkshire Playhouse Children's Theater must pay a joining fee of $45.00 to be in the production.  The fee includes the production script, production T-shirt and two tickets for the production.  Fees are only paid by those who make the production.  Scholarships are available for families who cannot afford the fees.

Unfortunately, not all children who audition can be selected for the production.  Please prepare your children for the possibility of not making the production after auditioning. Those who make the production are expected to be at all rehearsals, and ready to work on the show.  Theater is team art.  Every cast member is important, and without complete cast commitment, the final production suffers.

Dear Yorkshire Playhouse Members,

This has been a great year for the Yorkshire Playhouse, we have put on 6 wonderful productions, everything from comedy to Christmas, and the support from our members has been amazing.  Our hardworking volunteers put in countless hours of work and effort because they love the thrill of telling stories, building sets that transport people to places of their imagination, and let people laugh and cry with people that they will never have the chance to meet in the course of their life.

This year we have been blessed with many new actors and volunteers from all over the area, including many of the area schools; and a few who came back to the stage after being away from it for 30 or 40 years.  The magic of theater keeps people coming back—whether in the seats or on the stage—because the collaborative spirit that grows from the work and the laughs and tears is something that is exceedingly hard to find in today’s world that seems to be viewed through a screen.  On the stage are real people, people that you can reach out and touch; the energy that comes from an engaged audience laughing, clapping, and crying—those are things that cannot be replicated sitting in front of a screen.

On May 10, the Yorkshire Playhouse will hold our annual meeting at 7:00 pm. at the theater to elect 5 people to the Board of Directors. These are the people whom our members entrust with running the day to day operations of the theater; but also these are the people who we want to help make this theater a place that this community can be proud of.  A place where people can come together with friends both old and new and create something that they are proud to present to our members and all of central Nebraska. 

There are big things in the works this year, and we would like to invite everyone to join us for another great year!
